digital
/ˈdɪdʒɪt(ə)l/
involving or relating to the use of computer technology.
transformation
/ˌtransfəˈmeɪʃ(ə)n/
a marked change in form, nature, or appearance.
Digital Transformation is the way in which a business uses digital technology to overcome traditional problems. It involves creating multiple possibilities when before there were few. Automating processes, enhancing customer experiences and greater data analysis are just the tip of the iceberg...
Blockbuster - the one-time giant of VHS and DVD rentals met its swift and grisly demise not all that long ago. But how? Why?
Well it wasn’t because of pesky upstarts Netflix, NowTV or Redbox. No, it was because of PRIDE. They refused to budge, unashamedly sticking to their guns. It would prove to be a devastating decision. By failing to see the digital landscape changing all around and the growth of monthly subscription rivals, Blockbuster rapidly fell by the wayside.
Norden’s - This accountancy firm came to us with 3 clear issues:
1. They wanted to expand,
2. They wanted more leads and
3. They wanted to reduce staff burnout.
We identified how digital transformation could quickly and radically improve all 3 of Norden’s requests. By introducing responsive automation throughout the firm and boosting their online presence, Norden’s has seen a huge upturn in growth and staff morale.
Kodak - In 1976, Kodak had a giant-sized pie of the entire camera market, 85% to be precise. Not only that, but they had a 90% market share in camera film.
For practically the whole of the 20th century, Kodak were a runaway success.
But then, the future finally caught up with them. The rise of the digital age meant that Kodak had big decisions to make. Focus on the new film-less digital cameras, or continue with the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mantra that had worked for the last 120 years.
The truth is that Kodak did not give digital cameras enough attention and - with the speed of technology trends - were very quickly left in the cold. By 2005, Kodak were deemed an old-fashioned brand and more or less redundant to the changing times.
Harley Street Skin Clinic - This independent clinic (the largest of their kind on Harley Street) came to us with three pressing areas that they felt had to be changed if they were to compete in the long term:
1. They wanted to reduce time spent on repetitive admin tasks.
2. They wanted to boost their brand and online presence to a wider, buying audience.
3. For staff to be given the freedom to commit more time to patients, giving them a better level of care.
We were confident from the outset that all three aspects could be honed and implemented - not just to keep up with their nearest competitors, but to dominate in their field. We were able to breathe new life into the Harley Street Skin Clinic brand and the rewards have been dramatic.
Polaroid - We imagine instant cameras as belonging to the modern, digital era. Well, back in the 1940’s the genius mind of Polaroid inventor and founder, Edwin Land thought different.
He sold his very first Polaroid Instant camera in Boston and it wasn’t long before this revolutionary piece of camera kit was wowing everyone throughout the next 4 decades. How could it all go so very wrong for Polaroid?
It wasn’t because they didn’t foresee or act upon the digital age. In fact, they were the largest sellers of digital cameras in the late 1990’s.
The truth lay in the fact that they pinned too much faith on hard copy prints, believing that humans would always prefer this as a means of keeping photographs.
"It's amazing, but kids today don't want hard copy anymore," said DiCamillo, the Polaroid CEO stated at the time. With dozens of digital competitors arriving on the scene with their own cameras, Polaroid was left in the dust for failing to judge the next generation of consumers.
